Privacy Policy
Last updated July 9, 2026
Tangnt is built local-first: the notes you capture live in a database on your own Mac. This policy explains the limited information we collect through this website and while the app does its work, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Summary
- Your captured notes, screenshots, and knowledge graph are stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- To research and connect what you capture, the content you capture is sent to our backend, which relays it to AI providers. It is used to fulfil that request, not to build a profile of you.
- Through this website we collect only what you choose to give us — principally your email address if you join the waitlist.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Who we are
“Tangnt”, “we”, “us” refers to the makers of the Tangnt application and this website. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@tangnt.app.
Information we collect
From this website
- Waitlist email. If you sign up for early access, we collect the email address you submit so we can tell you when accounts open up.
- Basic technical data. Like most websites, our host may process standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) to serve pages and keep the site secure.
From the app
- Content you capture. When you capture text or a screenshot, that content is stored on your device and sent to our backend so it can be researched, summarised, and embedded for the knowledge graph.
- Capture context. To help you find things later, a capture is saved alongside limited context such as the name of the app it came from and the window title at the time.
- Account & usage. When accounts are available, we process an account identifier and counts of AI usage so we can operate the service, meter usage fairly, and prevent abuse.
How your information is used
- To respond to your waitlist request and to operate the app.
- To research, summarise, and connect the material you capture — the core function of the product.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and meter AI usage.
We do not use the content you capture to advertise to you, and we do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
Tangnt’s intelligence is powered by third-party providers that process capture content on our behalf to return a result. Depending on the capture, this may include:
- AI model providers — to research, summarise, grade quizzes, and generate the embeddings that power the graph.
- Web and image search providers — to find supporting sources and illustrative photos for entities.
- Infrastructure and account providers — to host the backend and manage accounts and usage.
These providers process data only to perform their service for us and are bound by their own terms and privacy commitments.
Data storage and retention
Your notes and media live in a local database and folder on your Mac. You can delete individual captures inside the app, or remove the app data directory entirely, at any time. Content relayed to service providers is processed to fulfil your request and is retained according to their policies. We keep waitlist emails until you ask us to remove them or the waitlist is retired.
Your choices and rights
- You can leave the waitlist at any time by contacting us.
- You can access, export, or delete the notes stored on your device directly through the app and your file system.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold. Email us to make a request.
Children
Tangnt is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
As Tangnt moves from private testing toward general availability, we may update this policy. When we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify waitlist members by email.
